Victor and his white board soon informed us that it would be a windsurfing orientation for those interested...and a snorkel drift trip over a few patch coral areas. After watching some of the windsurf lessons.....off Stacey went for the snorkel. Karen wasn't sure if her swimming would be strong enough to come back against the current, so she stayed back and did some snorkeling off the beach, and some laundry. GOOD thing too cause she sure SMELLED! Hahahaha...just kidding...she did laundry far more often then Stacey ever did!
Meg, our kiteboard professional, doing a windsurf lesson. |
We believe this is Dr. Cindy from the Yukon. She was a natural. |
The snorkeling trip was led by Mario..and he took us out from the beach and we drifted through multiple different patch reefs. We saw multiple types of rays.....TONS of HUGE lobsters....many different types of corals.....eels......a school of about a thousand bone fish...and too many fish to name. It was a VERY informative snorkel! The swim back was against the current and was quite tough, so it's probably a good thing that Karen didn't participate.
Meanwhile...back at the island. It was lunch time. After lunch Karen, Laura and I decided that we would like to snorkel along the shore, and the docks..and maybe find a patch reef. Next thing we knew, it was a larger group event, and we even had a guide...or two...not sure which as Karen remembers Mario leading..and I remember MJ. Maybe one of them can enlighten us?????
Karen got to see her first Barracuda...up close and personal...and decided against chasing them. Stacey was all for it...but Karen would have none of it! This was also where we started playing with some kind of fan worms or some such thing....we do have pics that will be included...but they looked like pretty little flowers...but when you got close, they suck into the coral and there is no sign of them.
We did turn back as Karen was feeling a little sick...as it was getting a bit rough...and the rest went around the point to the other side.
For our evening lecture, we had Charlie's very informative lecture on atolls, and how they are created. And that Belize is different from others in some way...but...its been awhile. And we can't remember why. There may have been some alcohol involved as it was the end of the trip, and we were about to lose 5 of our crew, and about to gain 7 newbies. We did feel sorry for the newbies...they had a LOT to live up to!
Drinks were flowing, and staff and clients alike began to have a great evening of dancing, and general mayhem...of a very civilized sort!
Earlier that evening, Stacey and Kellie had taken it upon themselves to take Dolly, the inflatable dolphin, to go have a sleepover in Victor's House. When we arrived (after sneaking away from the dinner table) we found a mound of clothing covering his bed. So we did our best to hid Dolly under the mess, and leave a suprise guest for him!
While mingling a little later that evening, we had a sudden appearance of Victor and Dolly. I denied knowing anything, John knew the dolphin, but didnt lay claim. And Kellie was nowhere in sight. We found out she was napping on the hammock and missed the excitement.
Soon after, we found that the night was dying down...and perhaps we needed a swim to end the evening. And enjoy the moonlight on the matt out in the lagoon.
Pictures to follow, and more stories to come tomorrow. WE are getting reallllllly bored of computers now...and it is night time!
Stacey and Karen
