New marketing plan for Gallo beer!!!!

First of all here is the safety message for today!  When warned NOT to go to Temple 6 just before dark, unless you are with a lot of other people......dont take a wrong turn and end up doing just that! ha ha ha ha ha...yes...we were hiking last night just before dark, on the path that is the least safe in Tikal.  Purely by accident...but we had about 30 to 45 minutes of untouristy hiking bliss!  NO BANDITOS bothered us though!  BUt still....YOU SHOULDNT TRY THIS AT HOME!  OR TIKAL FOR THAT MATTER!  hee hee hee
Huge Ceiba tree at Tikal

Didn't see a monkey yet..so Karen became one!

Karen walking into the great unkown!

This message has been brought to you by 2 margaritas and 3 gallos!  And the weapon machine gun!  All of which are in vast quantities all over the country!
YES...this is a sign above the door of a nightclub!!!  IN Flores.  But not uncommon all over the country!

Ok...on to our last 24 hours.  We took a bus yesterday afternoon to tikal...about 1 hr...and met a few people on the bus.  There was Grit....from Germany...and 2 other girls...an aussie and a canadian from Alberta.   All had been traveling for months...but we only met up with Grit ever again.

So...after we accidently went to the remote temple 6.......we found our way to the Lost World pyramid area...where the sunsets were supposed to be the best...and climbed the nearest ruin.  I rushed up so as not to miss the sunset...while Karen leisurely took her time (I am always rushing...Karen is always leisurely taking her time....but we meet up somewhere eventually.)  When I got up there....There sat Grit!  She is a very friendly lady from Germany...and her and a fellow German that she had just met were having a sunset bottle of red wine.  Karen soon joined us and we hung out and took some photos....before trying to rush out of the park before dark.
Karen coming through the walk way through some ruin we have not yet identified!

I think this was temple 6?

The first temple we climb!  You can see Grit and Dude Whos Name I Can't Remember...on top!

It is dark..time to say good bye to our German friends!
a very hot and sweaty Stace! Sunset in Tikal!

Karen and I took off and armed with flash lights...started the trek out to our hotel (which had a pool...we werre soooo excited to get back there to swim.....its the jungle and soooo humid and hot.   22 C in the evening, and well over 30 C during the day....with HIGH humidity)

Karen has next to NOOOOO night vision...so it took us quite some time....but eventually made it back to our hotel for an awesome chicken supper...and a bottle of wine and some Gallo!

Early to bed.....and early up for a pancakes and hiking!  When I ran back to the room....I got to meet a very hairy spider.  May have been a baby tarantula..but I dont think so.  Pictures to follow of course!

HMMMM...not sure what kind of spider.  BUt it is BIG!

Our oh so sexy hiking look!

In front of the Mayan Calendar

Off we went to the RUINS! We met up with a couple from Germany that were in our previous pic from waiting for the bus in Rio Dulce...we still dont know their names...but we kept bumping into them all day!  We have some photos together again of course!
I am sure this is temple 4.  I went up...Karen did not!  Met the German couple from Rio Dulce on the top

SO up some  more ruins....photos to be posted asap...and hiking all around.  OH...and we found a herd (herd????) of monkeys...babies and all!  So watched them for awhile.  We had been warned that they often defecated on the tourists to show their dominance...so we were on high alert for any poo slinging!  Fortunately...no poo slinging was forth coming!  WOO HOOOOO.....

Cousins of the raccoon.  Semi tame all over the place!

and a close up of the little critter

Can't get enough of the BIMBO signs!!!

there was a giant bird on this building.  NOt sure what kind..but it was huge.  We thought it was a person at first

Just love the roots on these big trees!

Fortunately I don't speak Spanish..so did not know I was not supposed to go in there!

Ok...this was in English and Spanish..but still have problems with listening!

If anyone has read Tucker Max second book...this is SOOOO a dare for him! NO BULLHORNS!!!!!

Our hotel in Tikal

little cabana at the hotel by the pool

Imagine that...Stacey drinking Gallo!

Karen stretching out those muscles!!

We finally made it to Temple 4...one of the newest that they have begun excavating...but the largest ...sitting at 70 feet.  It is visible above the jungle from other ruins...and other ruins are visible from the top of it (we climbed up the back way up a zillion stairs...photos to follow) but its only uncovered at the top and the bottom.  They still have years left of excavating to uncover the whole thing.
Taking a breather part way up temple 4! SCHEEIIIZZEER!!! I look like my Dad!

a silhouette of Karen resting part way up!

the view from Temple 4 was awesome!  Karen..take ONE more step back!!!!

We are SOOOO far above the jungle!  YOU wouldn't believe how steep the stairs down the front are!

Karen urging me to hurry!  Gallo waits below!
This is Temple 4.  Open on top..and the bottom is being excavated..but all jungle in between!

you can just see the top...jungle..and the bottom that they are working on!  Temple 4!

NOW...for the new marketing plan for Gallo Beer!  We have some photos of us holding/drinking Gallo beers..and plan to photo shop in some ruins in the back ground...then the saying will be........."We wont let anything "ruin" our Gallos"  get it??????? We have old Mayan "ruins"  in the background...and...OH NEVER MIND!  If you dont get it ....it dont matter! tee heee heee
WE soooo deserve this beer!

Nothing gets  between Karen and her Gallo!

Ok...I think that is about it..had some pizza and drinks for the sunset back in Flores...and managed to elude a crazy American that kept telling us that some of the people speak an Arabian form of Spanish...and are all trying to gather the Americans together, so they can get rid of them! YES...there are many crazies here too!

Sunset in FLores

Stacey's foot wound art!
Stacey admiring the view!

OFF I go..Karen is obsessed with skyping her family (geeez.....what  loser...he ehehe he he he...ha ha ha...LOVE YOU MORLEY....I SEE YOU ON KARENS COMPUTER!)

Bye for now..Karen will update after she quits the family time!

Stace

First of all, I like ¨leisurely¨ walking as then I can actually see things!  As opposed to flying by everything at lightening speed like some people do...oh, Stacey just told me that she takes photos on the fly and looks to see what everything looks like later...what a Gringa!

Don´t really have anything to add, other than the spider was ¨HUGE¨ and hairy, in my opinion...you know, like the 300 million stairs we have to climb...that seem to exist everywhere we go!  But I did manage to climb 3 of the 4 high temples, even with my short little legs.

Oh, and we also have some great pics of Chuck flying over one of the temples and some of Stacey doing her monkey mating dance.  I was seriously scared that some Howler monkey was going to fling poo on me because of her special monkey noises.  I wasn´t ready for a sham...poo today!

Chuck at some unnamed temple

Chuck in the air....

about to flip over....

doing a somersault....

oh....will it be a hard landing????

looks like it should be a text book landing!!!!

Stacey starting the monkey dance (didn't notice the person on the right having a nap...apparently they lifted their head...watched the monkey dance for a few seconds..then went back to sleep!

getting down and monkey!

and doing a turn!!!!!!!

monkey rules!!!!!

totally getting my monkey on!!!!

Tomorrow, we head for Belize, we might have a chance to blog tomorrow night but after that there will most likely be no contact with the outside world for a week while we swim with the fishes.

Going to add a few pics now.  Have a good night!

Karen

  1. Ahh, what memories this brings back. We went to temple 6 just before sunset as well only we did not have flashlights to help us find our way out. Were lucky enough to meet up with a flashlight carrying group to follow.

  2. Machine guns, hairy spiders and shitting monkeys, not a sales pitch for tourism central america! Watch out for the monkeys, one bit me in Gibralter.

Thinking of you both in the freezing cold of Winnipeg, please BE CAREFUL : )
